Who We Are and Why We Care About Health Promotion

Alison Cline Earles: I am the founder and principal of ACE Ideas, and a wife and mother of two small children.  I am a passionate, energetic woman with a relentlessly creative mind and spirit. I have a knack for recognizing opportunities and bringing people together.

My personal passion for overweight and obesity treatment and prevention and my keen awareness of the role employers and health plans do and can play in health promotion caused me to start ACE Ideas. Since I graduated from Duke Law School in 1995, I have studied laws that affect group health plans and helped employers design and implement health plans for their employees. As I watched overweight and obesity rise to an epidemic in the United States, I began to identify opportunities for health plan sponsors and administrators to actively promote healthy lifestyles while following the law. I sought out my first consulting position by contacting the National Business Group on Health's Institute on the Costs and Health Effects of Obesity and asking how I could help.
